The 'Arganda train, which whistles more than it moves' ran the Tajuña valley for almost a century. Today its course is a greenway of unmistakable red asphalt that starts two hundred metres from a Madrid metro station and heads into the south-eastern countryside, past market gardens, old stations, a spa whose waters were famous half the world over, and the branch line of a railway built in forty days to supply a besieged Madrid.
